Last night, the 2024 NFL Honors were held at the beautiful Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada. Suppose you didn’t watch the Honors on CBS and only got updates through social media. I’m right there with you. The Honors gave out awards such as AP Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player and Rookie of the Year, Most Valued Player, Walter Peyton Man of the Year, etc. There were a lot of nominees, and with that came quite a few snubs. 49ers fans, be prepared for what I’m about to say because it’s a lot. Grab your beers and a snack, and let’s talk about it.

The Honors gave out seven awards last night, including Coach of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, etc. There’s a lot of talk on social media about who should’ve won these awards last night, and frankly, the talk will never stop, especially about who won MVP and who got snubbed.

MVP: Lamar Jackson | Quarterback | Baltimore Ravens

When news broke that Lamar won Most Valued Player, saying I was surprised is an understatement…because I wasn’t surprised. Jackson hasn’t won MVP since 2019 due to his inability to live up to the household name he made himself (maybe that’s why Rodgers and Mahomes won MVP in previous seasons?). I will congratulate the quarterback on becoming the fifth player to win multiple MVP awards in his first six seasons, but what I won’t do is suck up to him. Let’s be honest here: the qualities of an MVP that one must have to obtain this award are leadership, commitment to both the team and the game, versatility, and assisting the team while also being on the winning team. While he did win this award, where was Lamar’s commitment to the team during free agency? We all remember those preseason days, and I’m glad that the Ravens’ QB got his finances and career together. Congratulations to Lamar Jackson and the Ravens organization. Let’s ensure you don’t miss the mark of the Super Bowl next season.

Speaking of making the mark of the Super Bowl, do you know who got snubbed last night?

San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Brock Purdy

We all know him and love him, whether you know him as “Mr. Irrelevant,” “Bang Bang Purdy Gang,” or just simply Brock, it’s no shocker that he got snubbed. The 24-year-old has been discredited since he debuted against Tampa Bay in December of 2022 (he’s an addition to the QBs who have beaten Tom Brady). Although Brock has been in the league for only a short amount of time, the 7th-round pick from Iowa State outperformed the MVP winner this season, throwing for 602 more yards with seven more touchdowns. However, he has more interceptions, with a higher QB rating of 72.7, making him first in the NFL 2023 regular season. Besides the numbers, Purdy also has the leadership, assistance, and versatility that a nominee for MVP should have. During the 2022 season, Brock’s leadership qualities shone through after former Quarterback Trey Lance suffered a season-ending injury, resulting in the 49ers going with their third string, who managed to bring eight straight wins (including 2 in the postseason). During the 2023 season, he was announced as a first-string and led the 49ers to win 13 games (including 2 in the playoffs). In the recent NFC Championship game, the Lions had the lead in the first half, and after halftime, the 49ers managed to turn the second half around due to Brock’s leadership and the entire team uniting as one. Speaking of conference championship games, although the 49ers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles last season, Brock and the 49ers were disappointed. Still, they didn’t let the loss affect them negatively (unlike Lamar and the Ravens, do I even have to put in that picture of Jackson at the AFC Championship game this season?) Instead, they took the loss and used it as motivation to come back and go back to the Super Bowl once again.

Ending on a good note, the 49ers and the Chiefs are in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl, and this game will be a nail-biter for both Faithful and Chiefs Kingdom. In the end, the greatest must come out on top! I’ll see y’all on Sunday! Bang Bang Niner Gang!
